The Rotary Club of Solon raised more than $7,000 at its "Night at the Races" fundraiser held at the Solon Community Center on June 25, 2011.  More than 130 attendees were treated to a buffet dinner and simulated horse racing, as well as a 50/50 raffle and several auctions of sports-themed prize packages.

In keeping with the Rotary Club's mission of "Enhancing the Minds and Bodies of Our Children," the funds raised by the event will be used for projects and improvements in Solon Community Park, the Recreation Center, and the Solon Center for the Arts.  Identification of specific projects is now underway.  Club vice-president Ned Bergen, who also served as the event chair for "Night at the Races," said "We're pleased to be able to work to improve parks, recreation and arts facilities right here in Solon.  The Club thanks all of those who contributed to make this event a success."

The Club's next fundraising event, the "Bowl for Water," will be held October 22 at Freeway Lanes in Solon and will benefit international clean drinking water projects.
