Patrolman Scott McElroy of the Solon Police Department and Paramedic/Firefighter Tom Green of the Solon Fire Department have been named the recipients of the 2012 Solon Police and Fire Awards, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Solon and awarded at a ceremony at Signature of Solon on January 4, 2012.  Rotary Club of Solon President Kevin Cox stated that he was "pleased to have a chance to honor those who run to trouble, rather than away from it, when we need them."  Solon Mayor Susan Drucker was pleased for the opportunity to honor “people who deserve it” and to recognize city employees for doing “what they do every day” and making it their passion.

Fire Department Chief William Shaw announced that Paramedic/Firefighter Tom Green was selected as this year's Fireman of the Year award.  Green was described as a “go to guy” and “consumate professional” who can work through the toughest of problems.

Police Chief Christopher Viland awarded the Policeman of the Year award to Patrolman Scott McElroy for a yearlong series of achievements that “demonstrate how good he is at his job," including arrests of drunken driving suspects and investigatory work in robbery and breaking and entering cases.
